Mitsuba‘s craftsmanshipMISSION
Mitsuba‘s craftsmanship roots date back to 1930, when the company was contracted to weld pantographs for trains in what is now Shinagawa, Tokyo. The company was named “Mitsuba” (meaning “three leaves” in Japanese) because it was established as a town factory by just three people.
In 1941, the factory was designated as a Navy supervised factory, and in 1945, the factory was lost due to the ravages of war, and the factory was evacuated to Ueda City, Nagano Prefecture, at the mercy of history, so to speak, where it remains to this day.
With the goal of breaking away from the welding business as a subcontractor, we ventured into the unknown field of “rubber extrusion molding machines” with the dream of someday introducing our own products to the world. After a long period of time and repeated failures, we have come to be known as “Mitsuba for extruders.
Today, we have expanded our rubber extruder technology to plastic extruders and wire manufacturing equipment, and are challenging new technologies such as foam resin extrusion and twin-screw extruders.
Our products are not mere objects, but involve “use value. The starting point for a “creator” is to imagine how the machine will work, what kind of product it will produce, what kind of value it will create, and what kind of “meaning” it will have for a wide range of people, including customers, their employees, and users of their products.
Simply solving a small problem is not enough to create a truly good product. Even more it would be too much to talk about innovation. Our engineers began “Monozukuri” by first imagining the essence of the product, then designing and manufacturing it from there.
The source of the growth that enabled engineers from a small company to supply production equipment to a major company was their imagination and passion to finish the job.
Expensive equipment and skilled craftsmen are essential for in-house precision machining of metal parts. Funds are limited, and people do not grow overnight. Fortunately, Ueda City in Nagano Prefecture has a history of industry and educational institutions that produce skilled craftsmen. As a result of the time, effort, equipment, and human resource development, we have acquired the ability to produce parts that are as good as those of specialized metal processing companies.
As a result, the Ueda Plant has been transformed into a factory where the sales team that understands customer needs, the designers who realize those needs, and the manufacturing team that materializes the design concepts are all working together as one.
This “integrated production” manufacturing base, where designers and makers can influence each other, provide feedback, and constantly improve each other, was created with the support of nearly 100 years of history, the passion of our engineers and craftsmen, support companies, and our customers.
